Edgar “Paul” Lemmon, 93, was born on December 16, 1924 to Frank and Fredonia Lemmon in Pelly, Texas. Paul passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018.

Paul has been a lifelong resident of Baytown and has been a member of St. John’s Methodist Church for life. He was a member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge and the DAV.

Paul served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Spectacle minesweeper performing operations off the coast of Iwo Jima. This ultimately enabled the US Marines to capture the island from Japanese control. During these operations, he was badly injured when his ship was hit by enemy gunfire. His resulting injuries required over a year of surgeries and hospital care. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1946. He worked over 50 years through the Pipefitters Local Union 211 as a master welder. He was proud to have worked on many special projects especially on the training center at NASA for the Apollo Program.

After retirement he loved to travel, dance, and dream with the love of his life, his wife Billie of nearly 55 years. After Billie’s death in 2001, he continued to enjoy life with family and friends. His love for dancing was contagious! “When he had the chance to ‘sit it out’ or ‘dance,’ he danced,” inspiring all that knew and loved him!

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Fredonia Lemmon. He is survived by his 3 children, Jeannie Walker and husband, Johnny; Kenneth Lemmon and wife, Paula; and Betty Purdin and husband John; grandchildren, Jennifer Elrod and husband, Hal; Jennise Stubbs and husband, Jeff; Jon David Walker and wife, Melissa; Aaron Lemmon and wife, Meredith; Adam Lemmon and wife, Nancy; Joel Purdin and wife, Angie; Julie McEwen and husband, Clifton; and Jeffrey Purdin. He had 15 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank special friend LaVerne Denzel. Special thanks also go to friends and caregivers at The Waterford Assisted Living, San Jacinto Hospital, and St. James House.
