Peggy Jane Sanchez Martinez, 60, of Baytown was born December 13, 1950 in Houston and passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Peggy was a huge fan of fast pitch softball, spending much of her summers at the ballpark, not missing one Latin American Men's fast pitch tournament. Every year you could find her parked on the bleachers with her bright striped umbrellas. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughters to softball tournaments as children and loved it even more when they were adults. But her grandchildren meant the world to her. She cherished every softball and baseball game her grandchildren played. Peggy was a very loving and compassionate person that will be missed but never forgotten. She will live in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse "LuLu" Sanchez and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Julio and Esther Martinez. She is survived by her mother, Julia Sanchez of Houston; sister, Theresa Watts of Houston; husband, Roy Martinez of Baytown; daughters and son-in-law, Christine Carrizal of Houston, Denise Martinez and Rafael Moreno, Angela Cruz, and son, Ernest Martinez, all of Baytown; 10 grandchildren, Liza Martinez, Joseph Pereira, Stephanie Carrizal, Sarah Eaglin, Ruby Moreno, Samuel Moreno, Emily Moreno, Brian Cruz, Gabriel Rodriguez; 4 great grandchildren, Jacob Smid, Jayla Smid, Makenzie Smid, and Lorenzo Pereira; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Hilda Martinez, Julio Martinez Jr., and Glenn Martinez, all of Baytown and Alice Brumbaugh of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina St., Baytown, TX 77520 with Rev. Dwight Canizares officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roland Watts, Kevin Martinez, Joseph Pereira, Tony Galvan, Pedro Garcia and Rafael Moreno.
GOD saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so HE put HIS arms around you and whispered "Come to me". With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and though we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, angel hands at rest, GOD broke our hearts to prove to us HE only takes the best.
