Kitty Sue Barber, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Swan Manor Assisted Living facility in Baytown. She was born January 6, 1930 in Baytown to Albertus Vaut Barber and Sue Brunson. Kitty Sue attended schools in Baytown, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School. She then attended Brigham Young University, where she received a BA in English. After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand, Kitty Sue began a career as an English teacher in the Channel View Independent School District, where she taught until her retirement. Kitty Sue was very actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities and touching many lives. She especially enjoyed the many years she spent serving as an ordinance worker in both the Dallas and Houston Temples of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Florine and her brother Albertus Vaut, Jr. She is survived by a niece, Sandra Ferguson Smith (husband Toy), and three nephews: Milton M. Cook, Jr. (wife Rebecca), Kyle Barber (wife Roxanne), and Steve Barber (wife Marolyn).
Services are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home where a visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be under the direction of Bishop Joseph Jeter, on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1010 Birdsong Drive, Baytown, TX 77521.
